Pod Filter Range - Sizes & Styles

  • 76mm (3 inch) Neck Pod Filters: Compact cone filters for smaller throttle bodies, carburettors, and tight engine bay applications
  • 100mm (4 inch) Neck Pod Filters: Most popular size for V8 conversions, turbo intakes, and performance carburettor setups
  • 127mm (5 inch) Neck Pod Filters: Large diameter filters for high-flow applications and big-bore throttle bodies
  • Short Profile Pod Filters (100-130mm height): Low-profile design for clearance-limited installations under bonnets and guards
  • Tall Profile Pod Filters (190-250mm height): Maximum filter surface area for ultimate flow and extended service intervals
  • Black Anodized Finish: Durable black coating resists corrosion and provides aggressive underbonnet appearance

Why Choose Pod Filters Over Factory Airboxes?

Factory airboxes restrict airflow with small intake openings, restrictive ducting, and paper filter elements. Pod filters eliminate these restrictions by drawing air directly from the engine bay with minimal resistance. The result is measurable horsepower gains (typically 5-10% on modified engines), sharper throttle response, and enhanced induction sound. Pod filters are essential for custom intake systems where factory airboxes won't fit or can't flow enough air for modified engines.

Pod Filter Construction & Technology

Multi-Layer Cotton Gauze Media: Our pod filters use oiled cotton gauze construction with multiple layers for superior filtration and maximum airflow. The cotton media traps particles as small as 5 microns while flowing significantly more air than paper filters.

Washable & Reusable Design: Unlike disposable paper filters, pod filters can be cleaned and re-oiled hundreds of times. Simply wash with filter cleaner, allow to dry, re-oil with filter oil, and reinstall for like-new performance. One pod filter lasts the lifetime of your vehicle.

Durable Aluminium Mesh & Rubber Base: Internal aluminium mesh provides structural support while the moulded rubber base ensures secure mounting and vibration resistance. Wire mesh screen protects the filter element from backfire damage.

Common Pod Filter Applications

  • V8 engine conversions with custom intake manifolds
  • Turbo and supercharger intake systems
  • Carburettor conversions and Weber/Dellorto setups
  • Throttle body conversions on EFI engines
  • Motorcycle and ATV performance upgrades
  • Race car preparation and motorsport builds
  • Custom fabricated intake systems

Pod Filter Sizing Guide

Neck Diameter: Measure your throttle body, carburettor, or intake tube outside diameter. Pod filters are sized by neck diameter (76mm, 100mm, 127mm, etc.). Use reducing couplers if your intake is smaller than available filter sizes.

Filter Height: Taller filters provide more surface area for better flow and longer service intervals. Choose short filters (100-130mm) for tight clearance, tall filters (190-250mm) for maximum performance and extended cleaning intervals.

Clearance Check: Ensure adequate clearance to bonnet, guards, and heat sources. Pod filters should be positioned away from exhaust manifolds and turbo housings to draw cooler air.

Pod Filter Maintenance & Care

Clean your pod filter every 25,000-50,000 km for street use, or after every race event for motorsport applications. Use approved filter cleaning solution—spray liberally, allow to soak for 10 minutes, rinse from inside out with low-pressure water, and allow to air dry completely. Once dry, apply filter oil evenly to the outside of the filter element, allowing it to wick through the cotton gauze. Avoid over-oiling which can contaminate MAF sensors on EFI engines.

Performance Benefits

  • Increased horsepower and torque (5-10% gains on modified engines)
  • Improved throttle response and acceleration
  • Enhanced induction sound and engine note
  • Unrestricted airflow for turbo and supercharger applications
  • Washable, reusable design eliminates ongoing filter costs
  • Aggressive appearance for show car presentation
  • Direct bolt-on installation with reducing couplers

Pod filters FAQ

Will these pod filters fit my vehicle?

Our pod filters are designed with a universal high-flow design to suit a wide variety of cars and custom builds. To ensure the right fit, check your vehicle's intake diameter and compare it with the filter's specified inlet size. If you’re unsure about compatibility, just contact our team at SS Racetech Rods & Customs—send us your vehicle make, model, and year, and we’ll help you choose the perfect pod filter for your setup.

How do I install a Proflow pod filter, and what tools will I need?

Installing our pod filters is quick and straightforward—most customers can do it themselves in under 30 minutes. You'll just need basic hand tools like a screwdriver or socket set. Simply remove your old air filter, slide the pod filter onto the intake tube, and tighten the supplied clamp for a secure fit. No major modifications are needed thanks to the universal design. Detailed installation tips are included with each product, and you can always reach out to our support for extra guidance.

What kind of performance improvements can I expect with a high-performance pod filter?

Upgrading to a Proflow pod filter provides your engine with increased airflow, which can lead to improved throttle response and potential horsepower gains—especially on tuned or modified vehicles. The high-flow, low-restriction design helps your engine 'breathe' better, which is why pod filters are popular among car enthusiasts and racers seeking reliable performance upgrades. Results can vary based on your specific setup, but most users report noticeable improvements in engine response and sound.

Are these pod filters reusable, and how do I maintain them?

Yes! All Proflow pod filters are made with washable and reusable filter media, so you don't have to replace them regularly like paper filters. To clean them, simply remove the filter, rinse out the debris with low-pressure water, and let it dry completely before reinstalling. For best performance, we recommend cleaning your filter every 10,000–15,000 km or sooner if you drive in dusty conditions. This easy maintenance helps ensure optimal airflow and long-lasting durability.
