Collection: Starter Motors - Mini & Gear Reduction Options

Browse starter motors including compact mini and gear reduction options for selected Chevrolet, GM LS, Ford and Holden V8 applications. Choose by the exact engine, transmission and flywheel or flexplate arrangement, not engine capacity alone.

Choosing the right starter motor

Check the individual listing for engine and transmission compatibility, mounting pattern, pinion arrangement and ring gear requirements. Selected starters have compact bodies or adjustable mounting positions; confirm clearance to the exhaust, oil pan, chassis and wiring for your build.

Application-specific fitment notes

  • Chevrolet PFEPM9004: The listing specifies 153- and 168-tooth applications. Confirm compatibility with your installed arrangement.
  • Ford PFEPM9603: The listing specifies selected 289, 302 and 351 Windsor/Cleveland applications with automatic and five-speed manual transmissions, not every engine and transmission combination.
  • Holden PFEPM308HD: Listed for Commodore and Torana V8 253/308 applications, excluding 304 EFI blocks. The listing states that shimming is required for correct flexplate alignment.
  • GM LS PFEPM9201: The LS1/LS2 listing notes a different mounting position from PFEPM9210. Check mounting and clearance before choosing a replacement or conversion starter.

Before installation

Match the voltage, power rating and specified application to your vehicle. Check the battery, cables, earth connections and starting circuit, and follow the manufacturer's instructions for wiring, mounting, shimming and gear engagement. Cranking performance depends on the starter and engine setup.

For starters identified mainly by dimensions, compare the original part number, mounting measurements, flange, pinion and rotation rather than choosing by power output alone.
