Why a Scavenge Filter?

In a dry sump oiling system, the scavenge pump draws oil — and potentially debris — directly from the engine sump. In the event of a major engine failure such as a spun bearing, broken ring, or connecting rod failure, large debris particles can be rapidly drawn into the scavenge line. Without a scavenge filter, this debris can destroy the dry sump pump — turning a repairable engine failure into a far more costly total oiling system rebuild.
